Will Belgium Beat Iran to Kickstart Campaign and Slash $BELG Supply?

This Sunday (June 21), FIFA’s tenth ranked national team, Belgium, aim to kickstart their World Cup by claiming all three points against Iran in Los Angeles.
Rudi Garcia’s team had to come from behind to claim a point in their opening Group G fixture against Egypt last week, thereby failing to trigger a 1% burn of $BELG treasury holdings.
With Iran and New Zealand having also drawn their match, all four Group G teams are currently tied on a point. Belgium know a victory on Sunday will be enough to send them into the knockout rounds, regardless of what happens against New Zealand in their final game (June 27).
So, can Belgium become the third team at the tournament to win a match and inspire a Fan Token™ burn?
Is a 1% Belgium Token Burn On the Way?
Given Iran are ranked 23rd by FIFA, Belgium are understandable favourites to win on Sunday and thereby trigger 1% of Belgium Fan Token™ ($BELG) treasury holdings to be burned.
With the treasury reserve figure 16,175,000, a win-driven 1% burn would result in 161,750 $BELG tokens being burned on Sunday. Given it would also secure Belgium’s passage to the next round, it may attract heightened interest from traders.
The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last five games, including resounding 5-2 and 5-0 friendly wins over USA and Tunisia respectively. Iran are also in good form, however, having lost just one of their last five, albeit against lesser opposition.
While Belgium can count on the talents of names like Courtois, Tielemans, Trossard, DeBruyne, Doku, and Lukaku, Iran’s squad is largely made up of players operating at a lower level. However, the Iranians may revel in their underdog status having made six World Cup appearances without progressing past the first phase.
What Iran lack in quality, they make up for in resilience: like Belgium, they had to come back from behind (twice) to earn a 2-2 draw against New Zealand.
Which Fan Tokens™ Have Burned After a Win?
Thus far, Argentina and Scotland are the only two nations to have won a game and triggered a token burn. Belgium failed to do so by drawing with Egypt, while Portugal and South Africa also missed opportunities.
After Scotland secured a 1-0 win over Haiti on June 14, 183,542 Scotland Fan Tokens™ ($SFA) were burned. Meanwhile, Argentina’s 3-0 win over Algeria on June 17 triggered a burn of 13,426 $ARG tokens.
Interestingly, $BELG isn’t the only Fan Token™ that might burn this Sunday; having recently joined the Chiliz ecosystem, the Spanish national team could trigger a burn of 257,594 $SPAIN tokens if they beat Saudi Arabia.
