Süper Lig, La Liga Return: What to Expect From Title Challengers and Their Fan Tokens

The World Cup was fascinating but focus returns to domestic action this weekend as the Turkish Süper Lig and Spanish La Liga get their 2026/27 campaigns underway. 

In the former, four-time and defending champions Galatasaray face newly-promoted Çorum, while in Spain, Sevilla – who barely escaped relegation last season – meet Rayo Vallecano on the opening day. 

Expect another year of twists and turns, and as always we’ll be covering every action on the rollercoaster, tracking fan sentiment on-chain via various clubs’ official Fan Token® digital assets. 

Fan Tokens increasingly move in alignment with team performance. Winning – particularly in impressive fashion – can galvanize market sentiment and boosts momentum, while losing form and dropping points often precipitates FUD. 

We just witnessed this phenomenon during the World Cup: when holders Argentina defeated England in the semifinal, the price of the Argentina Fan Token® ($ARG) pumped 143%. Spain’s defeat of France at the same stage caused the Spain Fan Token® ($SPAIN) to climb 67%, with daily trading volume increasing by a whopping 1,600%.

Will Galatasaray Kickstart Title Defence in Style?

Galatasaray couldn’t have asked for an easier tie to start the new season, as they welcome Süper Lig newcomers Çorum to Rams Park this Friday (Aug 14). 

Although the champions have been below par in pre-season friendlies, losing to Monza, Venezia, and Villarreal, Okan Buruk’s men are likely to post three points to commence a season they hope concludes with five-in-a-row.

Galatasaray last had the chance to win five on the spin in the 2000/01 season, but lost out to rivals Fenerbahçe. If they were to pull off the feat in 2027, they would become the first Turkish side to do so.

Given Galatasaray are heavy favourites against Çorum, a win may already be priced in for the Galatasaray Fan Token® ($GAL) which has a spot price of $0.960 at the time of writing.

Last season, $GAL performed spectacularly well between December and April amid an impressive title charge, gaining 110% between December 1 and April 23. It remains to be seen whether the champions can maintain their stranglehold on the Süper Lig and, if so, how their token will respond.

The Salah Effect: Can Mo Shoot Trabzonspor to Title?

One of Galatasaray’s main rivals last year was Trabzonspor, who ended up finishing third, sandwiched between runners-up Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş. 

The last team to win the league before Galatasaray (in the 21/22 season), Trabzonspor recently made headlines by acquiring the services of striker Mohamed Salah following his departure from Liverpool. The Egyptian King scored 257 goals during a trophy-laden nine seasons in England, and he could be exactly what Trabzonspor needs to mount a serious title charge.

Like Galatasaray, Trabzonspor haven’t had an impressive preseason, losing three of their four friendlies including a 3-0 drubbing to Eintracht Frankfurt. This Saturday (August 15), they’re away to Kasımpaşa who finished 13th last season and Salah could well get them off the mark.

Interestingly, Trabzonspor are pursuing Salah’s old Liverpool teammate Darwin Nuñez, so they clearly mean business this season. If they can land the Uruguayan hitman and impress against Kasımpaşa, it could be all that’s needed to light a fire under the Trabzonspor Fan Token® ($TRA). Particularly with crunch Europa League playoffs around the corner (August 20/27).

Are Beşiktaş Readying for a Title Bid?

Beşiktaş get their campaign up and running against Eyüpspor this Sunday (August 16) and like Trabzonspor, they’ve signed a Premier League star in hopes of bettering their fourth-placed finish last season. Namely Arsenal’s attacking midfielder Leandro Trossard, who arrives after helping Belgium make it to the World Cup quarterfinal.

Trossard was a key figure for the Gunners, scoring 36 goals in 174 appearances, including a winner against West Ham in May that got Arsenal’s title bid back on track. The Gunners’ loss is certainly Beşiktaş’ gain, and at just 31, Trossard appears to have plenty left in the tank.

The Beşiktaş Fan Token® ($BJK) will be one to watch this season, particularly as the club have also added Juventus’ Dušan Vlahović to their ranks. We’ll get a better indication of how strong their title prospects are this weekend against Eyüpspor.

Sevilla and Atlético Madrid Plot Successful Season

La Liga returns this weekend too, although Barcelona don’t begin their title defence until next weekend against Elche (August 23). There are some other Fan Token® clubs involved, however: Sevilla welcome Rayo Vallecano on day one (August 15) while Atlético Madrid have a midweek home match against Málaga. 

As mentioned, Sevilla had a poor last season, finishing well outside the European spots in 13th. However, the club have added Scottish striker Robbie Ure to their ranks following the exit of Akor Adams, and they’ve also bolstered their back line with fresh centre-back and full-back options. 

On the face of it, the seven-time Europa League winners could do with bringing in one or two more names, particularly in forward areas, to challenge for European qualification. As a low-cap token (sub $500k), $SEVILLA can experience sudden turbulence and sharp moves in either direction. Last month, it jumped from $0.0478 on July 22 to $0.0834 on July 28, an incredible rise of 74.4%.

Atlético Madrid finished fourth last year and made a run to the Champions League semifinals, but missed out on silverware after losing the Copa del Rey final to Real Sociedad. Their ambition will be to mount a title challenge and replicate their strong European form from last year, having added key personnel like Alejandro Grimaldo, Morten Hjulmand, and Lee Kang-in.

If Atlético can hang on to star striker Julian Alvarez, they stand a good chance of having a strong campaign. The Atlético Madrid Fan Token® ($ATM) will certainly reflect whatever highs and lows lay ahead.
