Five Major U.S. College Teams to Launch Official FAN TOKENⓇ digital assets on SOCIOS.COM platform

Fan TokenⓇ digital assets are going Stateside following a landmark agreement between Chiliz and Playfly Sports.
Five major U.S. college teams are onboarding to the Fan Token ecosystem, enabling fans to directly support their schools’ athletic programs and gain access to coveted engagement experiences and rewards.
So, which elite U.S. college sports teams are releasing a Fan Token and when is this happening?
Five Major U.S. College Teams Set to Launch Fan Token
The first deployments of a U.S. team Fan Token will be from Louisiana State University (LSU), the University of Maryland, Michigan State University, Penn State University, and Texas A&M University.
The announcement of Fan Tokens for the LSU Tigers, Maryland Terrapins, Michigan State Spartans, Penn State Nittany Lions, and Texas A&M Aggies makes good Chiliz’ commitment to entering the U.S. sports market, as outlined in its 2030 roadmap.
Collectively these five teams, which span the SEC and Big Ten conferences, have almost 440,000 stadium seats, reflecting their elite status in the college sport landscape.
College football Fan Tokens, like their counterparts in the world of soccer, will enable holders to complete gamified challenges, access exclusive experiences, and participate in fan engagement initiatives such as voting in polls through the Socios.com platform.
When Are U.S. Fan Token Launching?
Set to launch later in 2026, the college football Fan Token will not only create fresh opportunities for fans, they will also generate revenue to support student-athletes through Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) programs.
Reflecting on today’s announcement, Chiliz CEO Alex Dreyfus said: “The United States is the most important sports market in the world, and college sports represents one of the most passionate and culturally significant fandoms anywhere.
“These are the first Fan Token in U.S. college sports and represent not only a new frontier for Fan Token but also a new iteration of the established asset class.”
Why is College Sport Huge for Fan Engagement?
It is impossible to understate the significance of today’s announcement, given just how big college sports are in the United States. The 75 most valuable college athletic programs are worth a combined $51.22 billion, with Texas A&M University ranked third and Penn State and Louisiana State in the top 12.
Collegiate sports programs have enormous and ardent fanbases, with games regularly attracting crowds of over 100,000. This is reflected in the value of major showdowns: starting this year, ESPN will pay around $1.3 billion annually for the College Football Playoff, more than double its previous deal.
The launch of college sports Fan Token gives supporters and alumni networks the opportunity to engage with their beloved teams in a new and exciting way, unlock benefits and experiences, and directly support the schools’ athletic programs.
Could More U.S. Fan Token Be On the Way?
The first five partnerships are just the beginning: as many as 30 college teams are targeted over the next 12 months, a move that will considerably expand and enrich network effects.
Interestingly, the U.S. Fan Token ecosystem will also include performance-tied token supply gamification to create a sentiment marketplace for fans to interact with.
Performance-linked tokenomics were a feature of the ChilizⓇ ecosystem Burn to Glory campaign during the World Cup, with a percentage of nations’ Fan Token treasury reserves burned after every victory.
The launch of Fan Token for the LSU Tigers, Maryland Terrapins, Michigan State Spartans, Penn State Nittany Lions, and Texas A&M Aggies follows joint guidance from the SEC and CFTC earlier this year, which referenced Socios.com and recognised Chiliz Fan TokenⓇ as digital collectibles and digital tools.
