U.S. Sports Teams Poised To Embrace Fan Tokens As SEC and CTFC Deliver Green Light

At the DC Blockchain Summit on March. 17, the chairs of the SEC and CFTC delivered a definitive clarification on the legal status of Fan Tokens as crypto-assets.

The officials behind the two main governing bodies for financial assets in the U.S stated that Fan Tokens are to be considered digital collectibles or digital tools, and not securities.

Chiliz, the company that pioneered the concept of Fan Tokens, was mentioned directly in the full SEC/CFTC announcement, which can be read here. 

For the first time, Chiliz has been given the regulatory clarity needed to launch Fan Tokens in U.S markets, and to sign up American sports teams to the Fan Tokens ecosystem.

The statement by the SEC and CFTC amounts to one of the most important pieces of legislation in the crypto space in years. 

The announcement comes at just the right time, after Chiliz’ recent 2030 Vision outlined plans for U.S expansion in the coming year.

A Seminal Moment for Fan Tokens and Crypto-Collectibles

The clarification on the legal status of Fan Tokens could be one of the most impactful pieces of legislation for Chiliz and Fan Tokens in years.

The news caps years of work by the Chiliz team speaking with lawmakers and U.S stakeholders to educate them on the idea of Fan Tokens.
