Premier League Fan Token Preview: Tight at the Top in Matchweek 8

Moving into matchweek eight of the English Premier League, only six points separate the top ten teams in what has been one of the tightest openings to the season in recent memory.

Depending on the outcome of this weekend’s games, any team in the top five could move into first place – not only Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, but even lowly Bournemouth.

So let’s take a look at this weekend’s matches, and examine the recent movements of the Fan Token’s involved.

Manchester City ($CITY) vs Everton ($EFC)

Two points separate Man City and Everton, who currently occupy fifth and eighth spot in the table, respectively. City are predictably strong favourites in this home fixture, however they face a resilient Everton team who recently put an end to Crystal Palace’s unbeaten start to the season.

Man City have won four out of the last five fixtures against Everton, with the Toffees earning one draw. The odds favour a City win, but David Moyes’ teams sometimes thrive as underdogs, and a counter-attacking result for Everton cannot be ruled out.

The Manchester City Fan Token ($CITY) followed the sharp decline of Bitcoin and the broader crypto market on Oct. 10. Despite regaining 13% in the week that followed, the $CITY Fan Token again followed Bitcoin’s decline in the past few days.

The Everton Fan Token ($EFC) suffered the same fate as Bitcoin and $CITY on Oct. 10, and has struggled to claw back gains ever since. Sometimes the gravity of the broader crypto market still dictates the fate of Fan Tokens, and this is something traders should keep in mind.

Fulham vs Arsenal ($AFC)

Fulham’s only two wins this season have come against clubs positioned lower than them in the table. Arsenal, meanwhile, sit in first position, and will be everyone’s likely winners as they make the short bus ride across London to their nearby neighbours.

The Arsenal Fan Token ($AFC) regained as much as 19% in the week following the Oct. 10 dip, climbing as high as $0.375. However, in the days that followed, $AFC mirrored Bitcoin’s continued decline and sunk back to the $0.33 range.

Tottenham Hotspur ($SPURS) vs Aston Villa ($AVL)

After a poor start to the season, Aston Villa now find themselves on a four-match unbeaten run. But their opponents, Tottenham Hotspur, also find themselves unbeaten in four matches, while occupying third spot in the table. Spurs are one of five teams that could end this weekend at the top of the table. This potentiality would depend on other fixtures going their way, but ultimately Spurs are favourites to beat Villa at home.

After dropping from $0.15 to $0.12 on Oct. 10, the Aston Villa Fan Token ($AVL) has remained fairly stable, and at the time of writing, remains around the $0.12 range.

The Tottenham Hotspur Fan Token ($SPURS) clawed back 19% following the drop of Oct. 10, but subsequently declined following the crypto market’s ongoing dip.

Crystal Palace ($CPFC) vs Bournemouth

After a club-record unbeaten run came to an end, Crystal Palace now find themselves in sixth place, just four points off the top of the table. Meanwhile, their opponents, Bournemouth, sit in fourth position, just two points off league leaders Arsenal.

The last two matches between these teams ended in goalless draws, but the home advantage makes Palace favourites this weekend.

While the Crystal Palace Fan Token ($CPFC) sunk from $0.73 to $0.43 amid the recent market dip, its strong performance throughout most of the past year means it’s still up 26% for the last 30 days, and 53% for the previous quarter.

Burnley vs Leeds ($LUFC)

This bottom of the table clash has been dubbed a ‘six-pointer’ given the relevance it could have to the relegation picture at the end of the season. Leeds are the bookies’ favourites to grab the win against struggling Burnley, but the home advantage could still have a say in the outcome.

The Leeds United Fan Token ($LUFC) gained 6.8% in the few hours prior to publication, but is still nursing a 20% loss since the broader market dip. Regardless of broader market conditions, this match could have serious ramifications for Leeds United both on and off the pitch.
