Santos Fan Token Jumps 15% After Surprise Neymar Winner Against Flamengo
The value of the Santos FC ($SANTOS) fan token increased by over 15% in the last 48 hours following a dramatic 84th minute winner by Brazilian megastar Neymar against league-leaders Flamengo ($MENGO).
Santos were unfancied going into the game against Flamengo, having been relegation candidates for much of the season so far. This was reflected in the price movement of the $SANTOS fan token, which took a dip in the week leading into the game against Flamengo.
Surprise Neymar Winner Prompts Fan Token Surge
However, Santos escaped the relegation zone following a surprise Neymar inspired winner on Thursday, and the price of the club’s fan token responded in kind.
After dipping by 5.5% in the week leading up to the Flamengo match, the value of the $SANTOS token climbed from $2.06 to $2.30 – an impressive 15.04% gain over less than 48 hours.
Meanwhile, trade volume more than doubled from around $5 million to over $11 million in the past day alone.
The match was Neymar’s first full ninety minutes for Santos after re-joining his boyhood club after a failed (but extremely profitable) stint at Saudi club Al-Hilal earlier this year.
The goal marked Neymar’s first goal in the Brazilian Serie A since leaving Santos to join Barcelona in 2012.
Flamengo Fan Token Reaps Benefits of Club World Cup Performance
Flamengo now lie in second place after being overtaken by Cruzeiro, after Cruzeiro won against Fluminense ($FLU) on the same day.
Flamengo have been having a great season so far under manager Luis Felipe, leading the Brazilian league for much of the season.
The club’s strong underdog performance at this year’s Club World Cup against superior European opposition bode well for the club’s reputation around the world, after coming through the group stages unbeaten following a win against eventual competition winners Chelsea.
Flamengo eventually fell out of the competition after losing 4-2 to German champions Bayern Munich in the round of sixteen, yet the team’s overall performance at the Club World Cup prompted a strong reaction for its $MENGO fan token.
In the two weeks following the Club World Cup, the price of the Flamengo ($MENGO) fan token climbed 22%, from a value of $0.10 to $0.122. The valuation eventually cooled off back down to $0.112, but that still left $MENGO with reputable 12% gains for the past two weeks.
Trade volume for $MENGO hovered between $400,000 and $2 million across the two week period.
