Big Volume, Rising Values: How 2 UCL Playoffs Played Out On-Chain ($PSG v $ASM, $JUV v $GAL)

Last night’s Champions League playoffs delivered huge drama both on-pitch and on-chain, as numerous Fan Tokens saw significant jumps in value and volume pre- and post-match.
Let’s review the action.
How $ASM Rose Then Fell as $PSG End Monaco Hopes
Yesterday we speculated about the potential of a Monaco upset over PSG, who led the tie 3-2, noting the Monaco Fan Token ($ASM) could rise dramatically even if they were to level the match by scoring an early goal.
As fate would have it, Monaco did take the lead when Maghnes Akliouche’s first-time finish went in via the post just before half-time, and the value of $ASM rose to $0.102 having started the day at $0.096 (+6.2%) per Socios.com.
It was the second time Mamadou Coulibaly and Maghnes Akliouche had linked up, and if midfielder Coulibaly had maintained his poise, Monaco could have gone 2-0 up just as they had at the Stade Louis II last week.
Alas, Coulibaly picked up two yellow cards in three minutes in the second half as Monaco went down to ten men, as they had last week when Aleksandr Golovin was dismissed. PSG soon hit the net twice to go 5-3 up on aggregate, and though Monaco got a late consolation, PSG held on to qualify for the last-16.
Interestingly, 24-hour trade volumes for $ASM currently stand at $184,534, up from $90,432 yesterday (+104%).
The Paris Saint-Germain Fan Token ($PSG) also reacted to the on-field action, rising to $0.757 in the aftermath, up from $0.730 on matchday morning (+3.7%), although it has since dropped to $0.742. Trade volume has also increased to $2.5m, up from $1.35m yesterday (+85.1%.)
Defending champions PSG will meet either Barcelona or Chelsea in the next round, with the draw scheduled for Friday (11:00 GMT). Monaco, meanwhile, must refocus on domestic duties.
$GAL Make Last 16 at Expense of $JUV, Markets React
As wild a match as PSG v Monaco was, the second-leg of Juventus v Galatasaray was even crazier, and in the end it was $GAL which prospered.
Leading 5-2 from the first leg, the Turkish champions were highly favoured to get over the line but Juventus went 3-0 up on 82 minutes courtesy of a Weston McKennie header to level the tie.
The markets quickly responded to Juve’s heroic fightback, with the Juventus Fan Token ($JUV) hitting $0.654, up from $0.613 that morning (+6.2%). Trade volume also surged $7.4m this morning, a steep rise from yesterday’s $1.9m (+289%).
There were some parallels between Juve and Monaco, in that both teams temporarily levelled their tie in the second-leg and both had men sent off in each match, with centre-back Lloyd Kelly dismissed in the 49th minute.
Cruelly for Juve, Galatasaray hit two goals in extra-time courtesy of Victor Osimhen and Baris Yilmaz to win the match 7-5 on aggregate, and the Galatasaray Fan Token ($GAL) delivered intraday gains of 4.8% after the triumph.
On the morning after the match, $GAL volumes exploded past $7.4m, a tremendous 588% jump over the previous 24 hours.
Galatasaray will face either Liverpool or Tottenham, having qualified for the last-16 of the UCL for the first time since 2013-14.
If they can make it to the quarterfinals and maintain pole position in the Turkish Süper Lig, could $GAL climb into uncharted territory?
