Derbi Paulista: Rivalry on the Pitch and on the Blockchain

We took the Derbi Paulista on-chain as Corinthians and Palmeiras clashed on the pitch, creating an epic trading competition, which was also influenced by the actual derby match result.

A Thrilling Draw in the Estádio

On Sunday, 31 August 2025, the Dérbi Paulista delivered drama and intensity as Corinthians and Palmeiras played out a 1–1 draw. The match mirrored their storied rivalry: fiercely contested, emotionally charged, and balanced in outcome. Two first-half goals saw the teams cancel each other out in a chess-like affair. It was the away side, Palmeiras, who enjoyed more possession and outshot their rivals 7-1. Despite that, Corinthian’s defence was stubborn, and despite managing one shot on target and equalising through an own goal, they got away with an important point.

Trading Drama: The FANX Derby

But the duel wasn’t limited to the pitch. Ahead of kick-off, fans sparked a parallel battle through the Derby Trading Volume Competition on FanX, built on the Chiliz blockchain and featuring official Fan Tokens: $SCCP (Corinthians) and $VERDAO (Palmeiras).

The Stakes and the Storyline

Throughout the month, it wasn’t just derby bragging rights at play. Trading volume carried real rewards. With a $10,000 prize pool on the line, the highest trading volume Fan Token would win $5,000 shared among its top 20 traders, and if that same team also triumphed on the field, another $5,000 would be awarded to its top traders. Even sides that fell short had a safety net, at least $2,000 in Fan Tokens would still be distributed among qualifying participants.

Numbers That Rival Any Goal

The on‑chain derby matched its on‑field counterpart in intensity in the final countdown. Nearly $110,000 in total trading volume surged in the week leading to matchday, powered by 1,565 trades from 173 traders.

Over $454,000 was traded in total in the build-up to the Derbi since the competition was launched. Each team’s Fan Token amounted to:

  • $SCCP/CHZ – $278,645
  • $VERDAO/CHZ – $167,314

Market Mood: Value vs. Velocity

Interestingly, Palmeiras’ $VERDAO commanded a higher price, around $0.07, but Corinthians’ $SCCP was the volume king, trading at about $0.04 yet racking up over $27,000 in daily trades, compared to $VERDAO’s modest $1,500.

It was a familiar story in the rivalry: one token boasted prestige, the other steamrolled in sheer activity.

On the Field Meets On-Chain

The convergence of digital asset trading and the football rivalry added new dimensions to fan engagement. Supporters were no longer just cheering, they were actively shaping narrative and rewards through on‑chain trading. The draw, both on the pitch and in volume competition, underlines a balanced rivalry in both realms.

This dual narrative, where trade meets tradition, and Fan Tokens carry as much weight as trophies, captures a bold evolution in how fans experience football. As the Derbi Paulista showed, the pitch is no longer the only battleground: the blockchain has claimed its place in the rivalry.
