Why Did the Atlético Madrid Fan Token ($ATM) Just Rocket 31.6%?

As Atlético Madrid prepare to open their 2026/27 La Liga campaign, sentiment around their official Fan Token® is soaring. 

Diego Simeone’s 16th season in charge of Los Rojiblancos looks set to be an exciting one, following the capture of several important players, one of whom was signed in the last 24 hours.

Did Romero Signing Boost $ATM?

Late last night (August 12), it was confirmed that Atlético Madrid had secured the services of defender Cristian Romero from Tottenham Hotspur in a deal worth £34.2M (40M euros), and this appears to have been the catalyst for $ATM’s rise.

Over the last 24 hours, the value of the Atlético Madrid Fan Token® ($ATM) has surged 31.6%, coming within touching distance of the $2 mark. $ATM is already the top domestic football Fan Token® with a market cap of $17.6M.

Naturally, surging trade volumes have been evident for $ATM, with 24hr volume rising from $6.5M yesterday morning to $21.1M at the time of writing (+224.6%).

The 28-year-old Romero, a Europa League winner with Spurs and a World Cup winner with Argentina, is Simeone’s fourth summer signing following the arrivals of midfielders Kang-in Lee and Morten Hjulmand and left-back Alejandro Grimaldo.

In total, Atlético – who made it to the UCL semis and Copa del Rey final last season – have spent over £100M bolstering their squad ahead of the upcoming campaign. They have also, to this point at least, managed to fend off interest in star striker Julián Alvarez who is said to have a release clause of £427M (500M euros).

Can Atlético Win a Trophy This Season?

Last season, Atlético were miles behind Barcelona and Real Madrid, finishing 25 points behind the champions and 17 points behind their city rivals. However, their deep runs in knockout competitions nurtured optimism that Atlético can soon add silverware to their cabinet.

The last time Diego Simeone led his side to a trophy, it was the La Liga title in the 2020/21 season. On that occasion, Atlético won the title on the last day of the season after beating Valladolid 2-1.
