Which Fan Token® Teams are Still Fighting for Libertadores and Sudamericana Glory?
South American club football is back in the spotlight following the World Cup, with nine Fan TokenⓇ teams still in contention across the Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana.
Seven have already secured places in the last 16 of their respective competitions. Santos and Vasco da Gama are attempting to join them through the Sudamericana play-offs, with the first legs producing contrasting results this week.
Santos returned from Venezuela with a commanding 4-1 advantage over UCV, while Vasco twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Independiente Medellín in Colombia.
The remaining contenders include the defending Libertadores champions, four former winners of South America’s leading club competition, and two previous Sudamericana champions.

Can Flamengo Retain the Copa Libertadores?
Flamengo, Palmeiras, Fluminense and Corinthians will all represent Fan Tokens™ in the Libertadores last 16. All four have previously won the competition, while Flamengo enter the knockout rounds as defending champions.
Flamengo begin their title defence against Cruzeiro in an all-Brazilian tie. The first leg takes place at the Mineirão on August 12 before the clubs reconvene at the Maracanã seven days later.
Flamengo won their fourth Libertadores title in 2025, beating fellow Fan Token club Palmeiras in the final. They also topped their group this year, although their campaign included a match against Independiente Medellín that was abandoned after only three minutes due to crowd trouble.
Palmeiras will renew acquaintances with Cerro Porteño after the two clubs met twice during the group stage. The Paraguayan side took four points from those encounters, drawing 1-1 in Asunción before recording a surprise victory at the Allianz Parque. The last-16 draw has handed Palmeiras another home meeting with Cerro in the first leg on August 12
Fluminense also face opponents they failed to beat earlier in the competition. Independiente Rivadavia defeated the 2023 champions 2-1 at the Maracanã before conceding a stoppage-time equaliser in the return match in Mendoza. The clubs meet at the Maracanã again on August 11 before deciding the tie in Mendoza one week later.
Corinthians complete the Fan TokenⓇ contingent and will face Rosario Central, led by former Real Madrid, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain winger Ángel Di María. The tie revives memories of a remarkable meeting in the 2000 Libertadores. Corinthians eventually progressed on penalties after the sides produced a 5-5 aggregate draw.
Which Fan Token Teams Already Qualified for the Sudamericana Last 16?
Santos have one foot in the last 16 after beating UCV 4-1 away from home. Vasco’s position is less secure, with their play-off against Independiente Medellín level at 2-2 ahead of the return match in Rio de Janeiro.
Santos produced the clearest result of the opening play-off legs, scoring four times in Venezuela despite Neymar remaining unavailable following his World Cup involvement.
Vasco still have work to do after an eventful draw in Medellín. John Montaño scored twice for the Colombian side, with an own goal pulling one back before a Claudio Spinelli equaliser rescued a draw for the visitors in the 86th minute. The second leg takes place at São Januário on July 29, with Club Olimpia awaiting the winners.
Atlético Mineiro and São Paulo won their respective groups and advanced directly to the last 16 where Atlético Mineiro will face either Sporting Cristal or RB Bragantino. The opening match between those clubs ended goalless in Lima, leaving their tie open ahead of the return in Brazil. São Paulo await the winner of Bolívar against Grêmio.
The Sudamericana play-offs conclude from July 28–30. Both competitions then stage their last-16 ties from August 11–20, with the two finals scheduled for November.
