From Group Stage to Glory: Which Fan Token™ Nations Could Triumph in 2026?

We are days away from the start of the 2026 World Cup, and now seems like a good time to consider the prospects of the main contenders. Particularly those nations whose Fan Tokens™ may react to every high and low.
Can holders Argentina retain the title, and if so, will $ARG reflect the glory? Or perhaps Cristiano Ronaldo will lead Portugal to sporting immortality, and cause $POR to soar?
Let’s jump in.
Can Argentina ($ARG) Retain the World Cup?
European champions Spain are the favourites to win the tournament, but Argentina are among a cluster of five or six teams capable of going all the way.
One source touting Argentina to repeat their triumph from 2022 is a University of Reading supercomputer created by economist Professor James Reade. The computer has simulated every fixture from the tournament 10,000 times to generate probability estimates for each participant, and ranks Argentina top, ahead of Spain and France.
Argentina dominated their South American qualifying group, won the Copa América two years ago, and can count on an impressive array of talent spearheaded by the talismanic Lionel Messi, who is surely playing his last major international tournament.

Argentina are in Group J with Algeria, Austria, and Jordan, and their path to the final includes potential meetings with Uruguay (last 32), Turkey (last 16), Portugal (quarters), England (semis), and Spain (final).
The Argentina Fan Token™ ($ARG) is currently priced at $0.376, having tracked sideways in recent days. It remains a top ten SportFi asset by market cap ($7M), its 24hr trading volume stands at $2M, and it is highly likely to attract on-chain interest as the tournament unfolds.
Their first game is against Algeria next Wednesday (June 17).

Will Portugal ($POR) Go All the Way?
This year marks a decade since Portugal won the 2016 European Championship, and they will be desperate to finally add the World Cup to their list of honours. So can they do it?
The aforementioned supercomputer makes Portugal the sixth favourite, which seems fair. Ronaldo’s team crashed out to Morocco in the quarterfinals four years ago and the round of 16 in 2018.
Portugal are in Group K alongside Congo DR, Uzbekistan, and Colombia, and their path to the final likely includes showdowns with Switzerland (last 16), Argentina (quarters), England (semis), and Spain (final).
Portugal can count on the talents of many top players, Ronaldo aside, from metronomic midfielder Vitinha and Bruno Fernandes to Vitinha’s PSG teammates Nuno Mendez and João Neves. They’re definitely in the mix.
The Portugal Fan Token™ ($POR) is currently priced at $0.331, having declined 18.6% since June 3. Trade volumes stand at $727,493. They get their tournament underway against DR Congo on June 17.
Are Belgium the Dark Horse of the World Cup?
Last week, Belgium became the latest nation to join Chiliz’ expanding international team roster, which includes Argentina, Portugal, Italy, South Africa, and Scotland, and they revel in their dark horse status.
Although Belgium were unexpectedly eliminated in the group stage in 2022, they made it to the semifinals in 2018, losing a tight game 1-0 to eventual winners France. The supercomputer ranks them 14th.
Belgium will rely on star players like Thibaut Courtois, Kevin de Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku, and Jeremy Doku, and they’re in Group G with Iran, Egypt, and New Zealand.
The recent FTO for the Belgium Fan Token ($BELG) saw 600k sold in 24 hours. Belgium play Egypt next Monday (June 15) to open their account.
Which Other Fan Token™ Nations Could Spring an Upset?
The arrival of $BELG followed Chiliz’ partnership with the South African Football Association and Scottish FA, which saw the launch of $SAFA and $SFA respectively.
The South Africa Fan Token™ $SAFA is currently priced at $0.513, having risen 27% in the last 24 hours. It’s a similar story for the Scotland Fan Token™ $SFA, which is priced at $1.02, having climbed 21.2% in the last 24 hours.
While South Africa are in Group A with Mexico, South Korea, and Czech Republic, Scotland are in Group C with Brazil, Morocco, and Haiti.
It’s fair to say nobody expects either nation to go all the way. The aforementioned supercomputer ranks South Africa 39th in a 48-team lineup, with Scotland slightly higher at 36th. A run beyond the group stage could well prime on-chain sentiment, however.
South Africa play against Mexico in Thursday’s opener (June 11) while Scotland face Haiti on Sunday (June 14).
