Brasileiro Série A Preview: Samba Football Returns!

The new season of the Brasileiro Série A is now upon us!
The first round of fixtures is set to take place over the next 24 hours as Flamengo look to defend their league title, and teams like Palmeiras and Cruzeiro seek to wrestle it away from them after coming close last time around.
Last season’s competition went right down to the final weeks of the league calendar. Will this season’s Brasileiro have the same level of jeopardy and intensity?
Let’s look at how round one of the league fixtures are set to shape up, and see how the clubs’ Fan Tokens are looking ahead of the new season.
Atlético Mineiro ($GALO) vs Palmeiras ($VERDAO)
Atlético Mineiro finished last season in 11th place, while Palmeiras ran Flamengo down to the final weeks of the season and eventually finished just three points behind the league champions.
Palmeiras are favourites to win the opening match against Atlético Mineiro. The last five head-to-heads between the teams have resulted in four wins for Palmeiras and one win for Atlético Mineiro, with that sole win coming as far back as 2023.
The Palmeiras Fan Token ($VERDAO) has had a mixed week, but the token price has risen by 71% since November of last year. A sign of optimism ahead of the new Brasileiro season?
The Atlético Mineiro Fan Token ($GALO) is up 4.8% in the past week, and has gained just under 20% since November of last year.
S.C Corinthians ($SCCP) vs EC Bahia ($BAHIA)
Bahia finished 13 points above Corinthians last season, yet the home team are judged to be favourites by the bookmakers for their upcoming match on Wednesday night.
The only signings Corinthians have made so far this season have been free transfers, including the now 35-year old Gabriel Paulista, formerly of Arsenal and Valencia.
The last five head-to-heads between the pair have resulted in two wins each, and one draw.
The S.C Corinthians Fan Token ($SCCP) is up 2% in the past week. In January alone the token price has increased by 16%.
The EC Bahia Fan Token ($BAHIA) is up 8% in the past week, and a notable 46% since Dec. 8.
Sao Paulo ($SPFC) vs Flamengo ($MENGO)
Along with the Brasileiro Série A title, Flamengo also won the Copa Libertadores and the Supercopa do Brasil in 2025, capping off a stellar year.
Flamengo are favourites to beat Sao Paulo tonight. But the results of the last five head-to-heads between the pair are enough to give Sao Paulo hope, ending in just two wins for Flamengo, one for Sao Paulo, and two draws.
Just minutes prior to publication of this article, Flamengo confirmed the signing of Lucas Paqueta from West Ham for a fee believed to be around $50 million.
Between Dec. 18 and Jan. 17, the valuation of the Flamengo Fan Token ($MENGO) rose 58%, before sinking 28% in the past ten days. A sign that traders sought to cash in early on the league favourites?
The valuation of the Sao Paulo FC Fan Token ($SPFC) rose 2% in the past 24 hours, and is up 28% since mid-December.
S.C Internacional ($SACI) vs Athletico Paranaense
Internacional face off against one of the teams promoted to the Série A last season in the form of Athletico Paranaense, and are favourites for the win.
Internacional narrowly avoided relegation last season, finishing just one point above the relegation spots.
Between the last two transfer windows, the club sold over $60 million worth of talent, spending just over $5 million in the process.
The S.C Internacional Fan Token ($SACI) is up 6.5% in the 24-hours ahead of the club’s opening match. The token price has had a volatile month, but is ultimately holding on to 44% growth since mid-December.
Fluminense ($FLU) vs Gremio
Fluminense finished fifth last season, beating Botafogo to the final Copa Libertadores automatic qualification spot by just one point.
Between the last two transfer windows, the club strengthened with $28 million worth of signings, while also bringing in $33 million from player sales.
The Fluminense Fan Token ($FLU) increased by 4.5% in the days leading up to the Série A opener. A month of volatile ups and downs for $FLU has left the token holding on to laudable 23% growth since mid-January.
Chapecoense-SC vs Santos ($SANTOS)
After spending much of last season mired in the relegation spots, Santos stayed in the league by just four points after hitting a great spell of form at the end of the season, helped in no small part by a resurgent Neymar who racked up a bagful of goals while reportedly playing with just one leg.
Santos face one of the newly promoted teams in the season opener, and are favourites for the win. The last five head-to-heads include four wins for Santos, however, Chapecoense-SC did win the last meeting between the two teams when they met in Série B in 2024.
The Santos FC Fan Token ($SANTOS) kickstarted an ascension starting in early November, coinciding with the team’s (and Neymar’s) resurgence. Since then, the token price has increased by an incredible 100%, climbing from $1.18 to $2.37.
Mirassol vs Vasco da Gama ($VASCO)
Vasco da Gama escaped relegation by two points last season, and face Mirassol, the team who finished fourth-placed in the league in the previous campaign, in the season opener.
Vasco brought back Philippe Coutinho to the club last season, after bringing the playmaker through the club’s youth system before selling him to Inter Milan in 2008. Coutinho scored 11 goals in all competitions last season, and at the age of 33, may still be vital to Vasco’s Série A hopes this season.
The Vasco da Gama Fan Token ($VASCO) is up 2.2% in the past week, currently priced at $0.032. The token is up 77% since December, after briefly dipping as low as $0.18, although it had been priced in the low $0.20 range for most of that month.
