Jose Mourinho Move Triggers 141% Rise in $BENFICA Trading Volume

Benfica confirmed the appointment of the  self acclaimed “Special One”, Jose Mourinho on Thursday, on a two-year deal that runs until the end of the 2026/27 season. The announcement marks a homecoming 25 years after Mourinho first took charge at the club, before moving on to a career that saw him take charge of Europe’s biggest teams where he garnered worldwide recognition along with several trophies to his name.

The 62-year-old, famously dubbed the ‘Special One,’ boasts a glittering résumé that includes two Champions League titles, a UEFA Cup, a Europa League, a Conference League, and eight league championships. His time at Porto, Inter Milan, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Manchester United made him one of football’s most decorated and polarizing figures.

For Benfica fans, his return is loaded with nostalgia and expectation. The club parted ways with Bruno Lage following a shock defeat to Qarabag in their Champions League opener, and Mourinho is now tasked with restoring stability and ambition both domestically and in Europe.

Fan Token Activity Surges Amid Appointment

The excitement surrounding Mourinho’s appointment has not been confined to the pitch. The SL Benfica Fan Token ($BENFICA) saw a 141.50% jump in trading volume in the past 24 hours, signaling a renewed surge of investor interest. According to data, the token’s trading volume now stands at $285,679, despite only a modest 1.31% rise in price to $0.5989.

With a circulating supply of 3.3 million $BENFICA tokens, the club’s fan token carries a market cap of $1,985,117. While the price dipped by 7.23% over the past week, the sudden spike in volume underscores how high-profile signings can directly influence crypto assets tied to football clubs.

Supporters and investors alike are anticipating Mourinho’s next challenges, with reunions against former clubs already on the horizon. Benfica will face Chelsea in the Champions League on September 30 and clash with Porto in the Primeira Liga on October 5, matches that are expected to test Mourinho’s tactical acumen immediately.
