Premier League Fan Token Review: Man City Comeback in Style while Gunners Respond

With four games gone in the English Premier League one of the year’s most lingering questions have been answered: will the real Man City please stand up?

And up they stood, smashing three goals past their Manchester rivals despite having less possession, and less passes overall. Is Donnarumma having an effect already?

Elsewhere, Arsenal and Tottenham both answered back after losing last week, while Palace continue their unbeaten streak, and Aston Villa continue to extend the one statistic that no team would want.

Let’s take a look at the weekend’s fixtures and how the Premier League Fan Tokens reacted.

Manchester City vs Manchester United

Manchester City didn’t just win in style – they won in somebody else’s style, given the fact they had just 45% possession against Man United, and completed less passes overall. Still, a 3-0 derby win should answer some lingering questions around Man City considering their poor start to the season.

The Manchester City Fan Token ($CITY) gained 8% in the week leading up to the match, climbing from $1.01 to $1.09. After the win, the token fell back to the $1.05 range, suggesting some traders took profits from Man City’s win.

Arsenal vs Nottingham Forest

Arsenal bounced back after last week’s loss to Liverpool with a 3-0 win, sending the Gunners into second place in the league table.

Aligning with the pattern shown by the $CITY token, the Arsenal Fan Token ($AFC) gained just over 6% in the lead up to the Forest match. By the time the match was over the token price had given up most of the week’s gains, suggesting traders gambled – and won – on Arsenal vs Forest.

West Ham vs Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs grabbed a 3-0 win away to West Ham putting them third in the table behind London rivals Arsenal, giving new manager Thomas Frank a good start to the season despite last week’s loss to Bournemouth.

Like the two tokens above, the Tottenham Hotspur Fan Token ($SPURS) gained 6% in the lead up to the match, before declining after Spurs’ win was assured.

Crystal Palace vs Sunderland

Along with Liverpool and Chelsea, Crystal Palace are the only other Premier League team to remain unbeaten out of four matches in the league so far this season – however, only one of those games have been wins.

Another 0-0 draw against Sunderland leaves Palace 9th in the table, giving them a solid foundation from which to push on.

The Crystal Palace Fan Token ($CPFC) spiked 51% in one day earlier this week, and has been up and down since then. The token’s valuation remained fairly flat around the $0.035 range during the weekend’s matches, mirroring the team’s draw on the pitch.

Everton vs Aston Villa

A drab 0-0 draw leaves Everton 6th in the table, while leaving Aston Villa 19th in the table. Aston Villa are the only team in every tier of the English Football League not to have scored a goal so far this season. The only upside is that their defence isn’t all that terrible. They’ve only conceded four from four games, while registering two clean sheets. It feels like we’re just waiting for Villa to click.

The Everton Fan Token ($EFC) gained just over 5% leading into the weekend’s match, but remained between the $0.15 – $0.16 range the whole time.

The Aston Villa Fan Token ($AVL) started the week in the $0.19 range, and remains there at time of writing. Not much movement for the $AVL token, much like Aston Villa in the league.
