Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Man City, and Tottenham Face League Cup Challenge

The English Premier League might be the biggest footballing competition in the world, but that doesn’t mean competitions like the League Cup (also known as the Carabao Cup) need to be neglected.

Especially when the draw pits Premier League teams against each other, as is the case tonight where three out of four Premier League Fan Token teams are playing against other teams from the English top flight.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at tonight’s fixtures, and examine how Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Manchester City, and Tottenham Hotspur might fare, and how the results might affect their club Fan Tokens.

Arsenal ($AFC) vs Brighton

Brighton have beaten Chelsea and Newcastle in recent times, and always have the potential to surprise bigger teams on any given day.

They face an Arsenal side that are unbeaten in six in the league, and ten in all competitions. They sit four points clear at the top after nine games, and the Arsenal Fan Token ($AFC) has been on an upward run since early October, gaining 22.8% in little over two weeks.

Another win for Arsenal could compound the positive sentiment surrounding the token right now. Yet a loss may not exactly hurt it.

Arsenal’s ambitions lay far beyond the Carabao Cup, and the form that clubs produce in cup competitions are often uniquely separated from their league form. So an unexpected loss against Brighton might not actually affect $AFC’s positive run.

Liverpool vs Crystal Palace ($CPFC)

Crystal Palace beat Liverpool on their own patch earlier this season, and that was the loss that began a downfall that saw Liverpool lose their last four Premier League games (and five out of their last six in all competitions).

With that in mind, it’s fair to say that Palace have the opportunity to grab a win at Anfield tonight, even if the odds still favour Liverpool.

The Crystal Palace Fan Token ($CPFC) has gained 14.2% in the past week, so there appears to be some kind of optimism surrounding the token despite the team’s three game winless run following their brilliant unbeaten run earlier in the season.

Swansea vs Manchester City ($CITY)

Swansea are 13th in the second tier of English football, having scored 12 goals in 12 games, and conceded the same amount.

Man City manager Pep Guardiola might use this fixture as an opportunity to play some of the younger players, but after losing to Villa in last weekend’s league game, Man City might be looking for a palette cleanser, and could be primed to inflict some punishment on Swansea tonight.

The Manchester City Fan Token ($CITY) gained 5.5% in the lead up to the Aston Villa match, but then lost 6.2% following the loss. Trade volume remains strong for $CITY, and after a month of general decline, the token could be primed for a rebound if the trade volume remains.

Newcastle vs Tottenham Hotspur ($SPURS)

The last five meetings between these two teams has seen Newcastle win three out of five, with two draws. Now, with Spurs under new management and positioned 3rd in the table, they might represent a very different proposition for 12th placed Newcastle tonight.

The Tottenham Hotspur Fan Token ($SPURS) jumped 12% after Tottenham’s 3-0 win over Everton last weekend. The spike proved to be short lived however as most of those gains were levelled out in the next couple of days.

Remarkably, the $SPURS trade volume increased from around $80,000 to over $4 million during the short-lived spike – the token’s highest trade volume since August.
