Speculation suggested that Trabzonspor were attempting to overtake Beşiktaş in the race to sign the former Liverpool forward, with some social media posts even claiming he could be presented during the anniversary events.
However, club president Ertuğrul Doğan denied that any agreement or planned trip existed.
The rumours therefore remain unsubstantiated, but the scale of the speculation may still have brought additional attention to Trabzonspor and its Fan Token.
