Spain Cruise Into World Cup Final as $SPAIN Fan Token™ Rockets

Spain eased into their first World Cup final since 2010 by knocking out tournament favourites France in Dallas on Tuesday night (July 14).
This heavyweight collision, a repeat of their 2024 Euro semifinal, had promised fireworks but Spain dictated the game with masterful ball retention and confined France’s attacking players to a quiet night. Goals in either half by Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro saw Luis de la Fuente’s men run out 2-0 victors.
Spain’s big win was immediately reflected in the Fan Token™ stakes, as the value of $SPAIN climbed from $0.526 a few hours before kick-off to $0.592 shortly after full-time, a rise of 12.5%.
How Spain Upset the Odds
Although prediction market data had suggested France would triumph on Bastille Day, the European champions controlled the action by playing around and through their opponents, limiting the influence of key attackers like Olise, Barcola, Dembélé, and Mbappé.
When Lucas Digne scythed down Lamine Yamal in the penalty area after 22 minutes, and Spain’s top scorer Mikel Oyarzabal calmly dispatched the spot kick, the sense that France had a mountain to climb was already palpable.
In truth, Les Bleus were almost completely neutered by Spain’s peerless passing game. It was death by a thousand cuts for Didier Deschamps’ men.
In our prematch preview, we had noted that the semifinal might be the moment for Lamine Yamal to “step into the spotlight.” So it proved, as the 19-year-old was a persistent thorn in the side of Lucas Digne down the right flank of the pitch.
Spain Trigger Yet Another Fan Token™ Burn
Spain’s victory was their sixth in a row, following a dismal goalless draw in their opening group encounter against Cape Verde a month ago. Between June 21, when they beat Saudi Arabia 4-0, and July 14 when they eliminated France, Spain have triggered six burns of their Fan Token™ treasury balance as part of Chiliz’ Burn to Glory campaign.
The semifinal win provoked the largest burn so far, with 7.5% of treasury holdings torched, equating to over 1.6M $SPAIN Fan Tokens™ being permanently removed from the total supply. The burn percentage will be 10% if Spain can go one step further and lift the trophy.
Amazingly, Spain’s winning run has caused 4.4M $SPAIN tokens to be burned from the treasury during the tournament. That’s around 16.15% of the Fan Token’s™ total supply.
Spain’s opponent in the final will be the winner of tonight’s intriguing Argentina vs England showdown in Atlanta (July 15).
With Yamal having outperformed the tournament’s joint top scorer Mbappé, could another young superstar, Jude Bellingham, do the same to Lionel Messi? Or will Argentina’s immortal captain fire the holders to another final?
As was the case for Spain, Fan Token™ traders will be paying close attention to the second semifinal, as an Argentina win would trigger a 7.5% burn of the $ARG treasury reserves.
