Portugal Fan Token Up 5%: World Cup Qualifiers and Emergence of ‘CR7 Junior’

The Portugal National Team Fan Token ($POR) was among the better performers among football Fan Tokens on Thursday, Oct. 23. 

The $POR token climbed 5% in a mid-day rally backed by average daily trade volume that ranged between $150 – 200,000. 

Looking back at the past year or so, the $POR token has been one of the most resilient football tokens, having weathered the storm of a fluctuating cryptocurrency market better than others.

And now the Portugal National team – or perhaps more accurately, the nation of Portugal – has just received a major morale boost following the news that Cristiano Ronaldo Jnr. (son of Cristiano Ronaldo Snr.) has just been called up to the Portugal U-16 team for the first time. More below!

Portugal National Team Fan Token Performance

Starting from an early morning low of $0.704, the spot price of the Portugal National Team Fan Token ($POR) rose to $0.736 by time of writing – marking 5% growth in the space of a few hours.

While the $POR token flirted with a $1 valuation during this summer’s surge, its drop back down to the $0.74 range since those heady heights isn’t as dramatic as it seems.

Just six months ago, the $POR token was valued at $0.64. So despite falling from a valuation of just under $1 this summer, the fact is that the $POR token has still held onto 15% gains over the course of that timeframe. 

The summer has been a volatile one for $POR, but going back to February of this year, the token remains 25% above its springtime valuation of $0.59. 

Rewinding the Clocks: A Young Ronaldo Emerges

It seems like only yesterday that a young Cristiano Ronaldo turned Man United defender John O’Shea inside-out during a pre-season friendly in Lisbon, and caused Man Utd manager Sir Alex Ferguson to refuse to leave the Sporting Lisbon stadium without the Portuguese’s signature.

Earlier this week a new Ronaldo emerged. Namely, Cristiano Ronaldo Jnr, when he was called up to the Portugal under-16’s team for the first time, following strong performances in the under-15’s team.

Whether or not the young Ronaldo will reach the same heights as his legendary forebearer remains to be seen.

But with Portugal already sitting unbeaten atop their World Cup qualifying group, and with qualification seeming all but assured, the presence of yet another Ronaldo on the footballing scene will be a major morale boost for Portugal, and possibly the Portugal Fan Token.
