Premier League Review: Goals Galore as Fan Tokens React to On-Pitch Action

The weekend’s Premier League fixtures provided some of the clearest examples that Fan Token valuations are closely tied to on-field performances.

The outcome of the North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur had a decisive say on the fortunes of the clubs’ Fan Tokens, as did Manchester City’s surprise loss to Newcastle.

Meanwhile, both Crystal Palace and Aston Villa grabbed important wins that propelled them up the league table and resulted in favourable outcomes for their respective Fan Tokens.

Let’s take a closer look at how this weekend’s Premier League fixtures played out.

Arsenal ($AFC) 4 – 1 Tottenham Hotspur ($SPURS)

An Eberechi Eze hat-trick helped Arsenal to a 4-1 win against Spurs in the North London derby, extending Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table to six points. Spurs managed to grab a consolation goal through Richarlison, who lifted a 30-yard shot over Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya after spotting him off his line.

Ultimately, Spurs will want to put this match behind them and look ahead to their next game against Fulham, while Arsenal will be full of confidence going into their next match against second-placed Chelsea.

Prior to the match, the value of the Arsenal Fan Token ($AFC) stood at $0.376. After the full-time whistle, the token’s value had jumped to $0.397 – a 5.6% increase. Even after a slight pullback to the $0.38 range, the token remained 12.5% higher than it was on Friday, when it was priced at $0.34. Those traders who banked on an Arsenal win in the run-up to the match were handsomely rewarded.

There was a slight flurry of activity surrounding the Tottenham Hotspur Fan Token ($SPURS) on the day of the match, as the token price increased by 2.4% during the build-up. But by the end of the game those gains were wiped out, and the Fan Token price ended up 5.6% lower than it was on Friday.

Newcastle 2 – 1 Manchester City ($CITY)

Newcastle showed once again that their home support can help them overcome almost any opponent. The loss will have hurt Manchester City, who are now seven points behind league leaders Arsenal. However, City have overcome such large deficits before, and with two-thirds of the season still to be played, their title ambitions may have been dented, but not entirely eradicated by any means.

Between the start of the game and the final whistle, the Manchester City Fan Token ($CITY) price declined by 2.2%. Football-savvy traders may have anticipated that City would face a tough challenge at Newcastle, as the $CITY token price is now down by 7.2% from its weekly peak.

Wolverhampton Wanderers 0 – 2 Crystal Palace ($CPFC)

Prior to the game against Wolves, Crystal Palace were in 10th place. After Saturday’s 2-0 win, they’re now in 5th, just three points behind second-placed Chelsea. Palace had an excellent start to the season, going unbeaten for 19 games. After a drop-off in form, they now look to be back on track, having lost just one of their last six games in all competitions.

Between Friday and early Monday morning, the value of the Crystal Palace Fan Token ($CPFC) rose 11.4%. The Fan Token that gained more than 140% over the course of the summer looks like it might be on the rise again, although Palace’s next match against Manchester United might have a say in how that prediction plays out.

Leeds United ($LUFC) 1 – 2 Aston Villa ($AVL)

Leeds took the lead early in the first half, but ultimately fell to two second-half goals against Aston Villa despite having the superior expected goals. Leeds are now in 18th place, and face a tough test against Manchester City next week, although they may have more belief following City’s loss this weekend.

Aston Villa jumped to 4th in the table following the weekend’s win, and are now just one point behind City, and two behind Chelsea. Villa have now lost just one of their last nine Premier League games.

The Leeds United Fan Token ($LUFC) declined by 2.5% following the defeat against Villa, but remains up 12% over the past two weeks.

The Aston Villa Fan Token ($AVL) increased by 12% following the win over Leeds, climbing from $0.089 to $0.103. A pullback to $0.097 by early Monday morning still leaves the token holding onto 9% gains.
