One Game From Safety? $SPURS Eye Premier League Survival Against Chelsea

Tottenham Hotspur face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this evening (May 19) knowing that a positive result will ensure their Premier League survival.
Having been locked in a two-way battle for safety with West Ham United in recent weeks, Spurs face a Chelsea side in chronic form, winless in the league since March 4. Due to their superior goal difference (-9 vs -22) compared to West Ham, a Spurs draw would almost certainly keep them up.
Let’s take a closer look at the match and what’s been happening with the Tottenham Hotspur Fan Token™ ($SPURS).
Will $SPURS Survive or Leave It to the Last Day?
Tottenham Hotspur have been in and out of the relegation zone this season but have benefitted from West Ham United’s own abject form, and currently sit two points above their London rivals on 38 points. As such, they are firm favourites to secure 17th place and Premier League survival.

If Spurs were to lose tonight, it will go down to the final day where Roberto de Zerbi’s men will have to at least draw at home to Everton (May 24). West Ham United, meanwhile, must beat Leeds United at the London Stadium.
All of which is to say tonight’s game is mega. Despite Chelsea’s terrible run of form, Polymarket rate their chances of a win at 48% and Spurs’ prospects at 27%. Given the draw is also rated at 27%, more than half of the betting suggests at least a point for the north London club.
Sports analytics firm Opta rate Spurs’ chance of survival at 94.94% after West Ham’s 3-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday (May 17).
Whoever drops into the English Championship will exit the top flight for the first time in a long time: Spurs were last relegated in 1977, while the Hammers were demoted in 2010, when they finished bottom of the table. On that occasion, they returned to the top flight via the playoffs the following season.
What Next for $SPURS Fan Token?
At the time of writing, the Tottenham Hotspur Fan Token™ ($SPURS) has a spot price of $0.152, which is 7.8% lower than it was a week ago. Trade volumes stand at $224k.

Given the market’s apparent belief that Spurs is a hair’s breadth from safety, some might have expected $SPURS to climb after West Ham’s defeat on Sunday. However, the fact that they are not home and dry means uncertainty remains.
In any case, those who believe Spurs will win or draw this evening may anticipate a rally post-match. Even in the absence of such an outcome, the current spot price may represent good value in the eyes of many ahead of a summer rebuild.
Will Spurs survive? We don’t have long to find out.
