When the teams meet at Salzburg’s Red Bull Arena this Wednesday (August 12), Paris Saint-Germain will be bidding to defend the Super Cup they won against another English club, Tottenham Hotspur, last year.

At the time of writing, Paris Saint-Germain are 4/5 favourites while Villa’s odds are 10/3. That is no surprise: Champions League winners tend to win the Super Cup and PSG are currently the best team in the continent. 

Although Luis Enrique’s men are deserved favourites, Aston Villa can take heart from the fact that they won their last meeting 3-2 at Villa Park 16 months ago (PSG triumphed 5-4 on aggregate). Enrique’s Spanish countryman Unai Emery, meanwhile, will be seeking to mastermind another memorable upset.

It’s been almost a decade since a club won back-to-back Super Cups. That was in 2017 when a Real Madrid team featuring Ramos, Modrić, Benzema and Bale beat Manchester United 2-1.

How Are $PSG and $AVL Performing Pre-Match?

Over the last seven days, the spot price of the Paris Saint-Germain Fan Token® ($PSG) has climbed from $0.491 to $0.520 (+5.9%) while the Aston Villa Fan Token® ($AVL) has traded within a tight 3% range: its price today is virtually unchanged from a week ago.

As for 24hr trade volumes, $PSG stands at $1.7M while $AVL is around $300k. Those figures are likely to climb as we get closer to kickoff in Salzburg.

Although $PSG has trended positively over the past week, its current value of $0.52 is way down on the price it achieved on May 30, the day it beat Arsenal in the UCL final ($1.1). However, traders may see value in backing $PSG given what’s at stake in the next seven days.

On the flip side, $AVL backers anticipating an upset may view its current price as good value: it, too, has fallen from its May highs and a victory could prime Villa sentiment ahead of a season in which they return to the top table of European football, the Champions League.

A Huge Week for PSG

The Super Cup final will close the curtain on the 2025-26 campaign while simultaneously raising it for the upcoming season. Interestingly though, PSG have more title business to conclude before their Ligue 1 defence begins on August 23: this Sunday (Aug. 16) they face Lens in the Trophée des Champions.

Whatever way you look at it, this is a huge week for Paris Saint-Germain: winning the Super Cup and Trophée des Champions could set the tone for the upcoming season while reiterating their status as Europe’s premier team. 

Lose one or both and chinks in the armour will be apparent, emboldening their rivals and potentially dampening enthusiasm for the $PSG token.
