How Scotland Fan Token™ ($SFA) Could Respond to a World Cup Upset Over Brazil

Scotland are set to face Brazil for the fifth time at a World Cup tonight, June 26. That’s a notable number of head-to-heads considering Scotland have only appeared at the competition on nine occasions.
Scotland failed to register a win in any of those meetings, managing one draw and three losses. But not all hope is lost. While the Scots are clear underdogs, they still have a chance of qualification through a third-place group stage finish.
Let’s examine Scotland’s position ahead of the big match, and see how things could potentially play out for the Scotland Fan Token’s™ ($SFA) tokenomics should they upset the odds and grab the win.

Scotland ($SFA) Token Burn Chance
Chiliz’ Burn to Glory campaign runs for the duration of the World Cup, and sees a portion of selected teams’ token supplies burned for every match they win.
A victory for Scotland would see 1% of the Scotland Fan Token™ ($SFA) treasury balance permanently removed from its total supply, equating to a token burn of 181,706 $SFA tokens.
The $SFA total supply has already been permanently reduced by 183,542 tokens following Scotland’s group stage opening win against Haiti.
The subsequent 1-0 defeat to Morocco left $SFA’s token supply unchanged. Only a win is enough to trigger a reduction in a token’s total supply, rewarding existing token-holders by reducing the supply ceiling and making their holdings more scarce.

Scotland vs Brazil: Head-to-Head
Scotland have met Brazil at the World Cup on four occasions: 1974, 1982, 1990, and 1998.
The nations’ first match proved to be the most successful for Scotland, as they held Brazil to a 0-0 draw at the 1974 World Cup. However, that was the last time Scotland took points off Brazil at a World Cup. In all competitions, Scotland have failed to beat the Selecao in ten matches (2D, 8L).
Brazil are clear favourites to secure the win, but they may provide Scotland with the chance of an upset if they rest their best players for later in the tournament. Barcelona forward Raphinha is out with an injury, giving the Scots a potential glimmer of hope.
Scotland are currently second in the table of third-placed teams, and would still qualify for the next stage of the tournament if things remained as they are. Even if Scotland lose to Brazil tonight, they can still technically qualify, depending on how results go elsewhere.
