Fan Token™-Powered Fantasy Football dApp Squad Me Up Launches

Today marks the launch of Squad Me Up, a new fantasy football dApp that gives football fans an opportunity to build their dream squad and earn bonus rewards.
Squad Me Up coincides with a summer of football and lets players compete for prizes such as physical merchandise and Socios Reward Points.
With the tournament kicking off later this week, now is the time to get your team ready. So what do you need to do, and how does this free-to-play game work?
Build Your Fantasy Football Team
Squad Me Up keeps things simple by asking players to fill 11 slots in a classic 4-4-2 lineup. Instead of picking individual players, though, you fill country-position slots (i.e. Argentina striker) represented by Fan Tokens™.
Depending on how the real-world action unfolds, you could be languishing at the foot of the table, sitting at the summit, or somewhere in between. It depends on how well your team does: points are awarded for appearances, clean sheets/goals conceded, and goals scored.
Although the game is free-to-play, it’s aimed at Fan Token™ holders: you need the relevant Fan Tokens™ to fill the slots. That said, the dApp only reads your token balance to unlock slots: it never holds, moves, or locks your tokens; there are zero on-chain transactions or fees.
All in all, 103 slot options from 39 competing nations are available, so there is a fair amount of choice for goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, and forwards.
In terms of how many tokens you need to get a slot, that depends: the more users select a specific slot, the more tokens you’ll need to hold to unlock it. As such, it’s sensible to assemble your team as early as possible.
There is one leaderboard for each round of action, as well as a rolling global leaderboard where players are ranked based on their accumulated points totals from each stage.
You can connect to Squad Me Up in one step via WalletConnect v2 or MetaMask. The dApp works with the Socios wallet and external wallets such as Trust Wallet, Rainbow, and MetaMask.
Squad Me Up Strategy
Like other fantasy football games, Squad Me Up benefits strategic players who can use their sports knowledge to create the most impactful starting XI.
But this isn’t a ‘set and forget’ game: you can make transfers round by round to swap out weak links and bring in form players.
Two free transfers are allowed in matchdays two and three; unlimited transfers in the round of 32; three in the round of 16; and five in the quarterfinal, semifinal, and final.
These aren’t the only transfers you can possibly make as the tournament unfolds. You can exceed your quota by earning more transfers or taking a 4-point hit from the upcoming round’s score.
To earn additional transfers, you must predict match outcomes/scores in Squad Me Up’s match prediction mini-game. With the former, users submit a 1×2 outcome and/or exact final score before each round’s kickoff, earning rewards as follows:
• Correct 1×2 outcome: +1 prediction swap.
• Correct exact score: +3 prediction swaps (subsumes the 1×2 award; max = +3 per match).
Given incorrect predictions cost nothing, playing the match prediction mini-game is a no-brainer. Those free transfers could be the difference between success and failure in Squad Me Up’s leaderboards.
Knockouts and Tie Breaks
It’s important to note that if one of your countries is eliminated from the tournament, you don’t have to amend the slots occupied by that token. It will remain ‘filled’, though it will earn 0 points post-elimination. Naturally, it’s best to use your transfer allowance to replace the slot.
When two players are level on points, Squad Me Up has its own version of goal difference to determine which one deserves the higher ranking. In a tie break, the hierarchy is as follows: 1) Total points in the leaderboard scope (round or global), 2) Total quantity of eligible Fan Tokens™ staked on Socios at the staking snapshot timestamp, 3) USD-equivalent value of the same staked tokens at the same snapshot timestamp, 4) Datetime of first complete 11-slot lineup submission (earlier = higher rank).
To be clear, you don’t have to stake on Socios to play the game. But it does give you an advantage in the tie break scenario, per the above.
What Are You Waiting For?
Squad Me Up is now live, so what are you waiting for? Make a summer of sport even more exciting by pitting your wits against players from around the world.
You can, of course, start playing after missing a round. You’ll just be at a disadvantage in the rolling global leaderboard.
With Fan Tokens™ acting as your entry ticket, a seat in the dugout awaits. The question is, can you build a killer XI?
