EFL Cup: Crystal Palace in London Derby & Aston Villa Face Tough Test

European fixtures are sure to steal the headlines this week, but tucked behind the scenes on Tuesday night are two matches in the last sixteen of the EFL Cup – also referred to as the Carabao Cup.

Two football Fan Token clubs feature in tonight’s matches – Aston Villa ($AVL) and Crystal Palace ($CPFC) – and both fixtures contain a little more added weight than your average domestic cup game.

Unbeaten Crystal Palace in London Derby

For tonight’s Crystal Palace vs Millwall match, the away side will only have to drive six miles across South London to make it to Palace’s Selhurst Park.

In the wild world of footballing rivalries, Crystal Palace fans only view their neighbours Millwall as their second most-fierce rivals, with Brighton and Hove Albion taking first place in Palace’s hit-list.

Millwall, meanwhile, have an historic rivalry with East London club West Ham, but both clubs will have enough passion to spare when they meet at 20:00 (BST) tonight.

The Crystal Palace Fan Token ($CPFC) is priced 30% higher at time of writing than it was one month ago. At the same time, it is priced 35% lower than it was ten days ago.

That contrast should convey the volatility of the $CPFC token in recent times. In the past few hours the token price has started climbing again, registering 2.4% gains.

Palace are the only club besides Liverpool and Chelsea to remain unbeaten so far this season, and perhaps a win against their close neighbours Millwall could kickstart $CPFC’s ascendance once more.

Aston Villa Seek to Lose Unwanted Record

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa have been one of the standout teams in the Premier League in recent seasons, and were widely expected to challenge among the top six this season.

But at the moment Aston Villa lie 19th in the league, with two draws, two losses, and no goals. In fact, Villa are the only club in England’s top five leagues to not score a single goal so far this season.

Villa’s league position won’t change if they get a win away to Brentford tonight, but they will at least get rid of that unwanted record.

The Aston Villa Fan Token ($AVL) is down 19% in the last month, and besides the occasional spike, the token’s fortunes have reflected Villa’s on-field performances so far this season.

Villa could have hoped for an easier draw than an away trip to Brentford, but perhaps tonight is the night Villa manage to kickstart their season with a goal at the very least.
