Copa Chaos: Why Atlético Madrid Fan Token ($ATM) Surged 27% on Barça Win

The Atlético Madrid Fan Token ($ATM) price jumped 27% after Atléti put four goals past Barcelona in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals on Feb. 12, according to price data from Socios.com.
Atlético delivered a stunning 4-0 win at the Metropolitano, exploding into a four-goal first-half lead that leaves Barcelona facing an uphill battle in the return fixture at the Camp Nou on March 3.
Why $ATM Jumped 27% After Barça Win
While Fan Token prices often react immediately to on-pitch results, they react even more sharply to results that make a statement. A 4-0 win over Barcelona in the Copa del Rey semi-final is as big a statement as you’ll see from an Atlético Madrid team that hasn’t kept pace with Barcelona in the league.
Traders jumped on $ATM as the goals flew in. Data shows $ATM trade volume more than doubled while the match was still in play, from $3.7 million to over $7.5 million.
Eventually, the $ATM trade volume rose as high as $14.75 million, as of Feb. 13, the morning after the match.
As seen below, the Atlético Madrid Fan Token ($ATM) price climbed from $1.08 up to $1.38 after the win over Barça, as traders repriced the token in light of the cup semi-final win.
In the past seven days, the valuation of the $ATM token has increased by an incredible 72%. Since Feb. 6 alone, the token price has increased by 79%, as the Atléti token becomes the subject of traders’ interest following the recent market dip.
What Happened on the Pitch? Atlético vs Barcelona
The game was wrapped up within 45-minutes after four rapid-fire goals from Atlético sealed the win in the first half.
An own goal from Eric Garcia was followed by goals from Antoine Griezmann, new signing Ademola Lookman, and Julian Alvarez.
Barcelona couldn’t make the most of holding 66% possession during the match, and managed just half as many shots on target (with four to Atlético’s eight) as their opponents. Eric Garcia’s red card in the 85th minute compounded a forgettable night for Barcelona fans.
What’s Next for $ATM Token Price?
The 4-0 win over Barcelona in the semi-final of the Copa del Rey leaves just half the job done for Atléti.
The Copa del Rey semi-final is played over two legs, meaning we could be set for another major token movement in the lead-up to the second leg on March 3.
Before Atlético play Barça again in early March, the team is set to play Rayo Vallecano, Espanyol and Oviedo in the league, and two matches against Club Brugge in the Champions League playoff.
These are all matches that Atlético will be favourites to win, so it’s possible that traders are piling on $ATM in anticipation of a run of good results further down the road.
Either way, keep an eye out for the next leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final at the beginning of March.
