Can Galatasaray’s Derby Win Build Momentum Around $GAL?

Osimhen’s double settled the Istanbul derby, but a late goal-line clearance ensured Galatasaray’s third successive victory came with a little more tension than their manager would have liked.
Victor Osimhen scored twice as Galatasaray beat Fenerbahçe 2–1 at RAMS Park on Monday night, adding a derby victory to a run that has brought success at home and in Europe.
The result leaves Okan Buruk’s side top of the Süper Lig with 22 points from nine matches. They are two points ahead of Amed and now six clear of fifth-placed Fenerbahçe following the derby win.
Three consecutive wins give the Galatasaray Fan Token® ($GAL) a sporting backdrop worth watching, and a potential springboard moving into the second quarter of the season.
How Did the Derby Win Affect $GAL Price?
The week leading up to the Instantbul derby makes for interesting reading on the Galatasaray Fan Token® ($GAL) chart. See below, trading picked up in the lead up to the match.

From Oct. 20 until just half before the match, the token price increased by 5.1%, climbing from $0.784 to $0.824.
The sharp drop seen above may be attributed to the fact that Victor Osimhen’s two first-half goals were justification enough for traders to cash in on their short-term gains.

This is further backed-up when we look at $GAL trade volume, which was as high as $1.7 million prior to the match, but had dropped to around $900,000 by time of writing on Tuesday, Oct.27.
This might suggest that only a small portion of traders cashed out $GAL in the short-term, and that only a portion of the trading activity was dominated by bears. Bulls appear to still be holding onto $GAL for the long term.
If we look at the Fenerbahçe chart below, we see a similar pattern to the $GAL chart. The only difference is that the Fenerbahçe token started dropping as soon as Osimhen’s two first-half goals hit the back of the net.
Notice how Fenerbahçe’s daily rolling trade volume increased throughout the day, climbing from $200,000 to over $1.2 million by time of writing.
This could be indicative of more tokens being sold, however, that’s difficult to know since other traders may have been buying up tokens on the cheap.
How the Istanbul Derby Played Out
Osimhen opened the scoring in the 29th minute, combining with Barış Alper Yılmaz before finishing past Ederson. His second arrived just before half-time, when he redirected Davinson Sánchez’s shot into the net after the goalkeeper had punched away Ismail Jakobs’ long throw.
CATCH UP: Why $GAL Volume Keeps Rising as Team Eyes First Champions League Win
The Nigerian’s goals gave Galatasaray a 2–0 advantage at the break, but Fenerbahçe were not finished. Galatasaray’s official report records İrfan Can Kahveci’s reply in the 62nd minute, setting up a more uncomfortable final half-hour for the hosts.
Osimhen supplied the finishing touches, but Lemina’s contribution was just as important to the final score. beIN SPORTS’ match report and highlights capture both the goals and the late escape.
What’s Next for Galatasaray?
The derby follows a 1–0 win at Gençlerbirliği on October 17 and a 4–2 Champions League victory at Lille on October 21. Osimhen also scored in France, giving him three goals across the last two games.
Manager Okan Buruk considered the derby one of his team’s strongest performances this season, praising their movement and ability to find space between Fenerbahçe’s lines. He acknowledged that protecting the lead became more prominent in their thinking after Kahveci scored, but felt the performance deserved a more comfortable margin.
Naturally, the manager was less interested in treating the result as a decisive step towards the championship, pouring cold water on the idea to keep the pressure off his players.
“We haven’t won anything yet,” he said in his post-match assessment.
Galatasaray visit Konyaspor on Friday, October 30, before returning to Champions League action against Stuttgart.
